Tea Tuesday: Katniss

I’m not really a coffee person. I prefer tea, and I know a lot of fellow writers love tea, too. But have you ever wanted to break out of the Early Grey or English Breakfast norm and try something new? Well, let me help you find some cool new teas! If you need a little hot and flavorful boost to help you reach your writing goal or you’re just a lover of tea or you’d like to try some tea but aren’t fond of the stereotypical types, these Tea Tuesday posts are for you.
This weeks tea is …
*drum roll*
Katniss

How I found it: I’m back with another fandom set from Adagio Teas. Since the busy Holiday season is upon us, I bought these teas in advance. And the fact that the final Hunger Games film is releasing (released) may have something to do with it. I’m a huge Hunger Games fan and I’m so so so pumped for the film! I’m going to be cosplaying as Katniss when I see it (saw it depending on when these posts go up). I’m so happy for the Mockingjay Part 2 release but sad because the series will be finally over. 🙁 I’ve been wanting to get a Hunger Games set for a while and when Adagio Teas had it for a weekend special I had to snatch it up. Let’s see how good it is!

If you’d like to see what I think of the films check on reviews of the Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The Hunger Games: The Mockingjay Part 1 on Geeks Under Grace.

This is the same site I bought the Avengers set,Sherlock set, Tolkien set, Avatar: the Last Airbender set,  Doctor Who set, Attack on Titan set, RWBY set, Divergent set, Firefly, and Fruits Basket set from!

The Tea: Just looking at the tea description made me a bit wary about this tea. I’m not a chocolate mint fan, but I like trying new things and this tea was in a set, so I decided to try it despite my hesitations. Perhaps the lapsang souchong in it could override most of the chocolate mint flavor. When I received the tea, I smelled it and knew by then that the lapsang was very much in the background. Since I had the tea, I tried it anyway. Maybe it would grow on me. Maybe it would grow on me after adding sugar or cream or the second sip or the third sip, but nope didn’t happen.

I see how this tea has elements of Katniss the green tea in the cocomint green reminds me of the woods, the mint of her instinct to help and heal, and the cocoa like the cocoa she had on the train. The cream reminds me of her kind side and the lapsang souchong makes me think of her as The Girl on Fire. Unfortunately, I just didn’t care for the cocomint green and that took up the majority of the flavor. I could barely make it through a small cup.

This disappoints me since I love Katniss Everdeen. She’s one of my favorite book characters ever. There’s another Katniss Everdeen blend on the site I’m interested in try so I may have to make up for this disappointment with that one. For chocolate mint lovers this may be a favorite, but for me this is a nope.

My disappointment at this tea.
Serving Recommendations: I steeped this tea at 190 for 2 minutes and added sugar and cream.

How much is it and where can you get it? You can find this tea at the Adagio website. I bought this tea in a sample set which was about $22 including shipping and you get a goodly amount of tea since you only need about a teaspoon per cup. Some of these teas you can buy individually for about $10 a pouch or $4 for a sample tin.
So how good is it? Much to my chagrin, I give this tea only two stars. I could barely stomach it. Well, at least the tin is adorable. I’ll be seeing the Mockingjay Part 2 this Thursday! Review shall be up on Geeks Under Grace!

Have you tried this tea? What did you think of it? Have you seen or read The Hunger Games?

Bonus! If you are a first-time Adagio customer I can send you a $5 giftcard! Ask in the comments for details! (This is no joke and no catch I seriously can. It’s part of the amazingness of Adagio Teas)
