Soundtrack Sundays: Davy Jones (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest)

It’s Soundtrack Sunday again! The day where I post awesome music to write to or just listen to for pleasure if you’re a fellow soundtrack junkie. I may have posted this a long time ago, but it is no longer in my Soundtrack Sunday’s playlist nor is it on my blog so it deserves a reentry because this is indeed an epic piece.

A few weekends ago, I had an impromptu Pirates of the Caribbean marathon and that rekindled my loved for the films’ amazing soundtracks. This piece one of my favorites due to the unusual instrumentation. It uses two unique instruments: music box and the organ.

I love the music box starting and ending the piece relating the tragic story of Davy Jones with the strong organ, choir, and orchestra in the middle showing the character’s intensity. This piece fits the character like a glove. This could also be good for listening to while writing a historical or fantasy story. You can listen to more epic music in my Soundtrack Sundays YouTube playlist.

Have you heard this piece before? What do you think of it? Have you seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest?
