Monthly Wanderings: January 2021

This month was kinda weird. It threw me a curveball I was not expecting but I also made some fun plans for the year that I intend on making happen despite all the junk going on.

What I Did

1.) In Darkest Starlight is going well and I’m over 15K in! The words are really flowing in this draft and it makes me so happy. 💙

2.) The big news of the month is I’m getting laid off from my job in March. My company decided to nix 2,000 people including me, so I’m praying and trying to figure out where to go next come time. But before I heard this news, I set up plans with a friend to visit the week I get laid off so in a way I have something fun to look forward to despite the unfun business.

3.) I finished Lies by Michael Grant finally with my friend Cassia! I’m happy one of the bad guys finally died. He was so pathetic! I also finished The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan and thoroughly enjoyed it as I do with all of his books. <3 Lastly, I finished Whirlwind by Robert Liparulo, which was okay. It had a neat twist at the end, but it was a little jarring to the worldbuilding.

4.) I’ve done more preparations for my Etsy shop “Neverfound Figures” and I’ve got a logo commission on the way. I’m going to try to get the shop up in late February, but we’ll see if I can get everything done in time. XD

The Geeky Department

1.) The Promised Neverland Season 2 has finally arrived and I’m loving it so far! As you know, this has become one of my top favorite anime and I’m anxious to see how the kids navigate a world full of demons and rescue other farm children.

2.) Since The Breath of the Wild is supposed to be coming out sometime this year I’ve decided to replay the game with the addition of DLC. I really like getting the extra memories and character development from the Champion’s Ballad main quest and some of the new outfits are fun. I especially liked the Phantom outfit from the very underrated game The Phantom Hourglass. I personally favorite of mine.

3.) I’m finally finishing Star Wars: The Clone Wars! I’m on season seven now. This show continues to be good and shows that the prequel world was awesome!

4.) The Ghost of Tsushima

5.) A Link to the Past

I know this is Age of Calamity. I didn’t have time to do a BOTW pic. Sue me. XD

What I’m Going to Do

1.) I want to reach at least 50,000 words next month in my book. We’ll see how close I get!

2.) I’m going over to a friend’s house to watch movies and go out for sushi. I’m excited about that!

3.) I’m currently reading American Gods by Neil Gaiman and Dune by Frank Herbert so I’m planning on finishing those next month!

4.) I’m planning on sculpting a few figures for practice to get the hang of a few things like dresses, pets, hats, and closed eyes. Those sound trivial but I haven’t done them before so I’m going to figure out how to fit those into my style of sculpting.

February 5: Book Review and Writing Lessons: Timescape by Robert Liparulo – I feel like not much happened in this book, but I picked out some good writing lessons from it.

February 12: On God and Gods in Fiction – I’ve been reading a lot of books about God and gods lately and I wanted to do a discussion/tip post about the world-building aspect as someone who’s Christian and how to create mythological gods and how as a Christian I’m okay with coming up with and reading about mythological gods.

February 16: So Your Character is From Trinidad and Tobago … Featuring Lisa Allen-Agostini – I’m so happy to have Lisa on the blog to talk about her country!

Conclusion

I have no idea what 2021 is going to hold. I felt like it was going to be much easier before I found out I’m going to be laid off, but maybe this is a good thing. We’ll have to see what God has planned for me.

Let’s chat! How was your month? Did you get any snow? Did you get any writing or reading in?

I’m so sorry you got laid off! I hope your situation has been figured out as you said, and pray it will soon be if it hasn’t. <3

Those sound like some really neat books! I eventually want to read Rick Riorden’s books. 😀

Clone Wars! I loved watching that as a kid! And I love rewatching it now even more. ^_^ I can’t wait until I can watch Season 7, though!

I’m sorry about your job. That’s really rough.

I too am working on Clone Wars and am on season 6. I kind of don’t want it to end at this point, even though I plan to watch Rebels next.

I’m happy to hear In Darkest Starlight is going well! That’s such thrilling news! But oh man, it breaks my heart you were unexpectedly laid off from your job. I’m so sorry! I will absolutely be keeping you in my prayers as you figure out what to do next. That’s good you have something fun to do coming up. I know that’ll help. <3

I’ve been wanting to replay Breath of the Wild myself. Of course, I ALWAYS am. It’s like my favorite game. XD It’s just way too addicting. And OH. I looooved Phantom Hourglass! It is definitely far too underrated. I thought that was a fantastic one!

I keep meaning to tell you how much I’m enjoying seeing the So Your Character Is… posts returned! Even though I’ve been failing to comment on things lately. GAH. But I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them! And oooh, I’m looking forward to reading your post on God and gods in fiction. I’d love to hear your thoughts on that!

I do hope February proves to be a good month for you! <3
