Beautiful People #13: Caleb

It’s time for this month’s Beautiful People! Yay! This is a link-up hosted by Paperfury and Further Up and Further In where you answer questions about your characters. I participated in Beautiful People #1#2#3 and the villain special last year. And I’ve done Beautiful People Author EditionBeautiful People Valentine EditionBeautiful People #7Beautiful People Sibling EditionBeautiful People #9Beautiful People: Parental EditionBeautiful People #11, and Beautiful People: Friendship Edition. This link-up has been just so helpful with character development.

Poor Caleb hasn’t had a character interview or anything in, like, years, so it’s about time I bring him out, considering he has a big part in my Subsapien series. He is a fifteen year old amnesiac who the people of Rota made into a biomech aka cyborg. If you’d like to participate in this link-up yourself, check out either Paperfury or Further Up and Further In to see how. Here we go!

1. They’re in a crisis: who would they really like to see right now?
Even though he can’t remember them, he’d like to see his parents. He remembers tiny fragments of them and he misses them very much.

2. Are they easy to get along with?
He’s pretty easy to get along with. He’s a little shy and awkward, but he’s generally a friendly, kindhearted guy.

3. Who was the last person they had a deep conversation with?
Bryce. They don’t really get along too well, but Bryce makes Caleb think about things he normally wouldn’t, like about things wrong with society.

4. They’re in the middle of a huge crowd of people: how do they feel?
Very intimidated. Caleb is an introvert so he doesn’t like crowds and meeting strangers. He tends to stutter or say something stupid.

5. Do they believe in luck or miracles?
Caleb believes in miracles. Despite it being illegal in his country, he is a Christian, though he has to hide his faith to remain safe.

6. Do they like and get along with their neighbors?
At this time he doesn’t really have neighbors, but he has roommates: Bryce and Pro. He has a major crush on Pro so of course he gets along with her. Bryce and Caleb tend to fall out since Bryce doesn’t trust Caleb and Caleb doesn’t trust Bryce, primarily because he thinks he’s crazy.

7. If they could travel anywhere in the world, where would they go?
He would go home, so he could find out who he is. Right now he’s stuck at Rota until they release him–or he escapes.

8. How do they feel about their body?
That’s an intriguing question for Caleb in particular. About his regular body he think he’s too skinny and ill-proportioned so he tends to get looked over by girls or anyone for that matter. He feels very invisible. About the mechanical parts now fixed to his body, he’s not used to them and he barely considers his metal arm to be his actual arm. He’d rather be normal and at home then superhuman and trapped in a lab.

9. What is the cruelest thing someone has ever said to them? How did they react?
He’s been called worthless before because of either his faith or just being who he is. That’s almost made him cry.

10. What’s the kindest thing someone has ever said to them? How did they react?
His dad has always been kind to him and told him he was special and smart and that he was proud of Caleb. That made Caleb feel like the proudest person in the world.

My drawing of Caleb.
