Soundtrack Sundays: Si Deus me Relinquit (Black Butler)

It’s Soundtrack Sunday again! The day where I post awesome music to write to or just listen to for pleasure if you’re a fellow soundtrack junkie. I’ve been rewatching Black Butler or Kuroshitsuji lately to lead into watching the new season. It’s such a paradox of an anime, both with hilarious comedy and creepy elements. It’s certainly unique. While watching it, I’ve been reminded of the excellent music. The title of this piece is in Latin and it translates “If God has Forsaken Me.” It’s a tragic piece with touching Latin vocals and emotion-filled horns that usually plays during when the main character Ciel is upset about his turbulent past. The lyrics are tragic and I’ll include the English translation below. This is certainly a heartbreaking piece good for a steampunk, supernatural, historical, or fantasy story. You can listen to more epic music in my Soundtrack Sundays YouTube playlist.
If God has forsaken me,
Then I shall forsake God, too.

Only the oppressed may possess a black key

I close all doors,
Thus I seal away all prayers

However,
Who protects me
From the me who is most terrible ?

Have you heard this piece before? What do you think of it? Have you seen Black Butler?
